HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU GET YOUR CARPET PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED?

Your carpet needs yearly cleaning to keep out allergens like pollen, dust and dust mites even if it still looks pretty good but most people call the carpet cleaner when it starts to look bad. Maintaining carpet is a lot like getting the oil changed in your car. 

By getting your carpet cleaned at least once a year you not only prolong the life of your carpet but also provide a healthier environment for your family with better air quality in your home. 

Carpet is like a giant air filter that traps all the dust, dander and pollen that enters your home so it makes sense to remove that stuff often. Vacuuming traffic lanes should be done daily.

You should vacuum the entire area of your carpeted rooms at least twice a week. The Carpet and Rug Institute recommends professional carpet cleaning every 12 to 18 months but more often certainly does not hurt. If you have pets we recommend twice a year.

GOT FUR BABIES?

Having carpet and pets can be challenging but we are here to help. Accidents happen and the best thing you can do is call Cypress Floor Care to come save the carpet but what can you do between cleanings? 

If your pet pees on the carpet we do not recommend reaching for “Miracle in a Bottle” products you buy at the store. Instead try mixing 50/50 water and vinegar and pour or spray just enough to cover the spot. 

Let it sit for 5 minutes then absorb it with a dry towel. Do not scrub, just absorb the spot and let dry. This will neutralize the urine and hopefully prevent odor and damage to the carpet fibers. 

Pet hair is another challenge that means you will need to vacuum more often and have a quality vacuum that is easy to use and maintain. Canister vacuums work fine for the average carpet but with pets we definitely recommend a bagged vacuum. 

Bagged vacuums tend to filter the air better so you are not blowing pet dander into the air and when the bag is getting full you toss the bag out with the trash so there is no canister to clean.
